Technical Information /

Technische Infos zur Aktivierung von Hindi

You need to activate the support for Hindi in Windows. Following ought to be done to enable Hindi for Windows XP:

- Look under Start -> Control Panel -> Regional Options. (Deutsch: Start -> Systemsteuerung -> Datums-, Zeit-, Sprach- und Regionseinstellungen -> Region- und Sprachoptionen -> Registerkarte Sprachoptionen)

- Activate the check box designed to enable support for complex scripts. )

- Enabling it probably requires the XP product cd. (Deutsch: Möglicherweise wird hierfür die Product-CD von Windows XP benötigt . )

If you have already done that, please enable Hindi language support for Office XP. You can do this by doing the following:

1. Run Programs -> Microsoft Office Tools -> Microsoft Office XP Language Settings. (Deutsch: Achtung: Der Pfad hängt vom eigenen Rechner ab ; Programme -> "Microsoft Office Tools" -> "Microsoft Office XP-Spracheinstellungen". )

2. Add Hindi to Enabled Languages. (Deutsch: Addieren Sie Hindi zu "Aktivierten Sprachen".)

For Apple Users: Users of Macintosh computers running Mac OS 9 can install an Apple Language Kit that provides Devanagari support in various applications. Mac OS X incorporates support for Devanagari from version 10.2 onwards. Detailed inofrmation is available here.

In case the fonts are not displayed correctly, please view the site with Internet Explorer 6.0. Firefox and other Mozilla browser are still having trouble displaying Hindi characters correctly.

This Hindi site is created with the help of Aksharmala. In case you are having problems with the display, please install the Aksharmala software, which is available in a free edition. Alternatively you should install a compatible Unicode font, e.g. Arial Unicode MS.
